DESCRIPTION
Congratulations on making it to the Advanced Beginner section!
In this section you are going to be building the knowledge and flat water skills required before attempting any use of features.
Please note, you are not ready to use features until you have completed this section, and the theory section of the Amateur level.
Key topics are:
- Advanced Beginner Flat Water Skills
- Why it is important to master these Skills before attempting to use features
There are knowledge and practical elements included in Beginner Sessions, to build the foundation skills and understanding necessary to be able to visit a cable water sports facility and participate in open sessions unaided.
It is important to understand that not everyone will completely navigate the full course during their first beginner session, in fact it is rare for people to fully get to grips with it on their first visit. However, once you get it, there is no looking back!
CERTIFICATION
After completing the knowledge based assessment and proving your practical skills to an approved coach, you will be able to prove your ability upon arrival at cable parks around the world. Without this evidence, you could be asked to complete a similar assessment at a new cable park.
Please note, some cable parks have very stringent legal requirements based on their local authorities, governing bodies, insurance, and other factors. Therefore, you should not take it personally if you are required complete extra steps at different parks.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understanding amateur level skills and trick terminology
- Completing the practical elements of basic flat water skills, which provide the foundations required before feature use
WHAT’S NEXT?
You really shouldn’t be attending Beginner focussed sessions any more, making space for those who are yet to start mastering the skills you have already acquired.
After completing the Advanced Beginner Course and being signed off by a coach, you may feel you are ready and confident to start using features at your own increased risk, the ‘Amateur’ level of the Rookie Roadmap is key to understanding how to make this progression. You should complete the theory section before going anywhere near the features and kickers, but you can go and do that now for free.
Having completed the Advanced Beginner level, you should feel confident enough to be joining community events such as wake camps and competitions, if you haven’t started already!
